My Experiences With Using LinkedIn and What I've Gained From It

posted on 1 February 2012

I work for a marketing company and about 2 years ago I joined LinkedIn. Unlike Facebook which caters to personal connections, LinkedIn is more for professionals. The process was simple. Give them some details about you and an email address. After you confirm your email address you can log in. After I logged in for the 1st time, I updated my profile. The profile consists of work history and education. Then I was amazed. It showed my possible connections based on my previous employers. I started making requests to people I had worked with in the past and started getting connected. This is a very nice feature which let me contact people I had not kept in touch with for over 15 years. Besides contacting people you already know, it's also a great tool to find people that can help you. For example, a search for graphic design in nottingham gives me so many designers I can get in touch with in my own city. I was able to use LinkedIn to get additional contacts for projects coming up from connections of my connections. Very cool indeed. If you are a professional, you must have a LinkedIn account.
